Feelings, Sensations, and Proprioception in Hand Therapy

Description:

Sometimes, hand therapy approach is focus on the research for protocols to improve quality of life, but without considering sensations, experiences or feelings that could interfere in the recovery. Wrist and thumb proprioceptive approach has gained some relevance in clinical studies and clinical practice for hand therapy around the world in recent years. However, results are not entirely satisfactory, and other approaches should be taking into consideration. It’s necessary to carry out a global proprioceptive intervention to promote a more satisfactory and functional recovery of patients suffering from a hand injury.

Objective(s):

  • Evaluate and analyze the evolution of the proprioceptive approach in hand therapy.
  • Think about the reasons why proprioceptive hand approach is not enough by itself for reduce pain or improve function.
  • Analyze the possibility of expanding the evaluation and intervention in hand therapy considering a global approach considering other aspects that could influence in proprioception
